This week has had a repetitive theme…creativity. With the full moon coming up, major shifts in energy, crystals being recharged, manifestations amplifying, we figured it would only make sense to feature our beautiful, creative and artistic yogi friend Mandy Martini.
1) What brought you to your mat?
I started yoga because my therapist recommended it as an alternative to anti-depressants after I was diagnosed with PTSD and refusing to use medications.
2) What does yoga mean to you?
Yoga is a tool for me. I use it to make my body feel good, to open up and strengthen, I use it to keep my mind and soul at peace. I use it as my guide to go through my daily life every single day in how I react to different situations I am faced with.
3) What advice would you give to someone new to meditation?
Even if it seems overwhelming, hard, boring, hard to sit still, hard to let your thoughts go. It will get better, it will get easier. You just need to put the time in and commit as often as you can, even if it’s just for a short time.
4) What’s your favorite style of yoga and why?
Vinyasa. I love the flow and the importance of linking breath with movement.
5) What’s your favorite thing about yoga?
It brings me into the moment that is now.
6) Where do you teach and how did you get started?
I teach at Create Yoga in Santa Monica. I have been with the Create family since the doors opened for the first time last summer and love the community that is now shaping and becoming stronger and stronger.
7) Favorite yoga pose and why?
So many favorites! But if I have to pick one it would be savasana. Because it used to be the hardest pose for me, and I find that in some of my students sometimes. Laying still with yourself, trying to clear your mind can make many anxious but once you release to it, it is worth every peace and calm you feel after.
